History of the Taiwan International Orchid Show
Event Origins
Taiwan's diverse environment has fostered a rich variety of orchids, with over 100 years of cultivation history and more than 20 years of industry development focused on exports. In 2018, Taiwan's total flower exports reached USD 209.72 million, with orchids accounting for 92% of this, highlighting their strong international demand.
Since 2004, the Taiwan International Orchid Show (TIOS) has been held annually at the Taiwan Orchid Technology Park, following the successful 8th Asia Pacific Orchid Conference. The show has earned high praise and attracts participants from around the world. The 2019 event drew 43 countries and over 210,000 visitors, generating NT$11.31 billion in orders, significantly boosting both domestic and international sales.
TIOS is now a premier global orchid event, enhancing industry collaboration, competitiveness, and visibility. By integrating landscape design and high-quality competitions, TIOS showcases Taiwan's orchid industry achievements, blending orchids with art and culture to promote Taiwan's reputation as the "Kingdom of Orchids."
Overview of the Taiwan International Orchid Show
The Taiwan International Orchid Show (TIOS) attracts over 100,000 visitors annually. It serves as a major platform for the global orchid trade and industry development.
Since hosting the 8th APOC in 2004, TIOS has become a flagship event, supporting the international marketing of Taiwan's orchid industry. The show has proven effective in securing overseas orders and establishing a fair international trade market. Even during economic downturns, like the 2008 financial crisis, Phalaenopsis exports from Taiwan grew, demonstrating the industry's resilience.
